In this work, memes serve as a reflection of society and as a cultural language without filters in a way that is similar to what happens with graffiti and street art. For this public intervention, the posters were placed on telephone booths on the streets of New York City. They use tactics shared by memes and advertising, which subvert aesthetic elements with ironic texts. The three compositions make a bid for offline participation and combine whimsical aesthetics with comical political messages about capitalism, left-wing politics, and climate change denial. As they mutate and spread, the memes create an expectation of constant change, untethered to their origins, and they act as an antithesis to the advertising industry’s interest in controlling a single message.
