[Better Life Co.]
Mejor Vida Corp. (MVC) began in 1998 with a series of anonymous public interventions in response to Mexico City’s urban context and its social, economic, and institutional structures. The list of actions of what the artist has called “a non-profit corporation” includes distributing free subway tickets; modifying the barcode labels of basic products in supermarkets to reduce prices; elaborating letters of recommendation for strangers; and issuing original MVC student IDs for those who request them, among others. In Minerva Cuevas’ trajectory, Mejor Vida Corp. lays the groundwork for diverse strategies that characterize her works as subtle battles of intervention in the public and economic sphere.
