This mural, produced for the São Paulo Biennial, represents the devastation of the Amazon region, which has been brought about by the exploitation and expropriation of natural resources by various companies, including genetically modified soybean and cellulose producers. An important element in this piece is the figure of Chico Mendes, a Brazilian union leader and environmentalist, and the saying of the Terena tribe: “The white man is afraid to listen,” referring to the indigenous communities that have been expelled from their lands.
